Our Leathers

Our Leather

Quality Vegetable Tanned Leather is the start of every great piece we make. “Veg” tanned leather, is environmentally friendly, gets better with age and use, and participates in making sure that we use our natural resources in the best possible way. From the tree bark tanning extract to the animal that was selected for harvest in food production creating the natural biproduct of a hide, we value that resource.

Our primary supplier of leather is Wickett and Craig of America, based in Curwensville, PA.  They have been tanning leather since 1867.  A great intro video can be found here.https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwickett-craig.com%2Fthe-wickett-craig-story%2F&data=05%7C02%7Calh63%40pct.edu%7C503faf440f83490d929608dc00d55e50%7C920e613c72df49c1b026f53aac06dccd%7C0%7C0%7C638386163606301847%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&sdata=AoSIEonjOFl%2BpOxs%2BMWnaZ8%2BVqD2BBldaZvgdgcFGWw%3D&reserved=0

We have developed both our English Bridle Leather: Timber Brown and Jet Black as well as our Harness Leathers: Burnished Blonde, Buck Brown, and Shadow Black with them.

Leather is a natural resource.  Key word, natural.  You will see fat wrinkles, fence scratches, and other evidence of the life the hide lived.  We certainly are selective of what we use, but we also want to be responsible for the resource.  We have a huge advantage in being located 2 hours east of the tannery.  We can select our hides in person.  We can work closely with the people that actually handle the leather on a daily basis.
